Through first hand experience with working dogs, civilian dog training, and years of coaching handlers, Derrick built his reputation on clear communication, practical skill, and results that transfer. His work focuses on closing the gap between dog and handler through modern methods, proven principles, and a responsibility to always do what is best for the dog.
After being diagnosed with PTSD in 2016 following years in policing, took a deliberate process of rebuilding. That experience changed the way he understands pressure, resilience, healing, and service.
He chose to build something from it.That decision became Fox K9. In many ways, rebuilding began with the stability of working with dogs. Accountability matters.
"I had to regulate my nervous system in order to work and train them well, and in that process, the work itself became regulating. It became part of my therapy. Part of my return. Over time, passion and purpose collided."
A larger mission to educate handlers, support owners, and help others build trust, clarity, and control through better communication. Derrick’s direct and practical approach speaks to both working-dog handlers and everyday owners, blending experience with modern dog training and a deeper understanding of how pressure affects both ends of the leash.
For years, Derrick has had the privilege of teaching, mentoring, and working with a wide range of dogs and handlers. From family dogs and behavioural cases to high-drive working dogs the standard remains the same; pressure has purpose.Today, Derrick continues to teach seminars, coach handlers, and build culture through Fox K9. He also speaks to community organizations, strategic partners, and corporate audiences, bringing a grounded and honest message on resilience, mental health, leadership, communication, and the power of rebuilding.
